This square stoneware vase is simple and rustic, allowing the flowers to standout and look beautiful. It is the perfect size for tulips, daffodils or roses and makes a great gift when accompanied by a bunch of the aforementioned flowers. Handmade by ceramicist, Tom Butcher in his studio on the shores of Loch Long, Scotland and part of our lovely Home Goods collection. Tom designs and makes beautiful and functional stoneware that stands the test of time. Stoneware is glazed pottery that has been fired to temperatures in excess of 1200c. At this temperature, the clay body and the glaze fuse together to become vitrified and entirely non-porous. It has essentially returned to a stone-like state. The simple oatmeal dolomite glaze chosen by Tom is led by his love of all things natural and is based on the stone which surrounds his studio. Because of the reduction firing process, both glaze and body do alter in colour slightly depending on where they are positioned in the kiln. This adds to the natural beauty, charm and individuality of each piece. Click here to read more about Tom Butcher in the Designers & Makers section of our Journal.
